Diversity is an important part of the Baker Donelson strategic plan. The Firm recognizes that individuals with varying cultures and backgrounds provide unique perspectives and approaches to solving clients' legal problems. The Firm actively recruits at historically African-American Law Schools such as North Carolina Central, Southern University and Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Baker Donelson also strongly considers students at similar institutions. The firm takes pride in its first-year summer associate programs which are exclusively reserved for minority law students. In addition to numerous diversity sponsorships, the Firm participates in two annual minority job fairs: the Southeastern Minority Job Fair in Atlanta, and the National Black Law Students Association Job Fair, most recently held in Birmingham, Alabama. The Firm has also contributed 20 percent of the endowment for the Julian Blackshear Scholarship at the University Of Tennessee College of Law, which specifically provides financial support for minority law students.
