In 2004, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association established the Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr., Scholarship program (“LMJ Scholarship”). The LMJ Scholarship program seeks to nurture the academic and professional careers of outstanding law students and advancing the diversity pipeline to the legal profession.
The LMJ Scholarship is open to students who have been accepted to an ABA accredited law school for a full-time Juris Doctorate degree. The scholarship is available to diverse individuals who: have overcome obstacles, are outstanding and promising scholars, have an interest in corporate law, and possess a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The LMJ Scholarship is a national program that annually grants 15 scholarships of $10,000 to students for their first year of law school. MCCA, on an annual basis and at its discretion, may award additional monies to scholarship recipients for their second and third year of law school. Eligibility requirements and awards are at the sole discretion of MCCA and are not guaranteed.
To be eligible an applicant must show proof of his/her acceptance into an ABA-accredited U.S. law school on or before the application deadline (to start in fall). Applicant must have an interest in corporate law, including an interest in working in a corporate law department and/or law firm. Applicant must have an interest in diversity. Applicant must be financially disadvantaged and have completed the FAFSA and provide additional documents as requested. Applicant must demonstrate community service and leadership qualities. Applicant must have earned an undergraduate cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher. Applicant must be enrolled in law school on a FULL-TIME basis in the fall 2014. LLM and/or part-time students are ineligible.
