Each year, the Incorporated Society of Irish/American Lawyers awards a scholarship in the name of the late Thomas P. Thornton, United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, and a founding member of the Society. This year, the Society will be awarding two (2) $2,000.00 scholarships to those applicants who provide us with their resume, financial need, transcript of grades, and a short letter stating why they should be awarded the scholarship. The recipients will be chosen from the law school applicants who are third year students graduating in 2016.
The winning applicants and their guests are invited to the annual dinner of the Society, which will be held this year on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Gem Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.
Applications for the scholarship may be obtained from the Financial Assistance office, or you can click here 2016 Scholarship Application to download the form. Applications must be received by Friday, April 22, 2016 (see application for submission details).
Additionally, each applicant is urged to join the Society at the reduced price of $10.00 for student membership. The winning applicants will also have a waiver of their first year’s dues.
