The
Black Law Student Association Scholarship Award has been established by the
Black Law Student Association Alumni Committee to provide economic support to
second- or third-year Hofstra Law students who exhibit:1.
A commitment to public service and the Hofstra Law School Chapter of the Black
Law Student Association;
2.
A financial need for resources with which to finance their legal education; and
3.
Academic promise toward completing a Juris Doctor degree at Hofstra.
Awards: Award(s)
will be made for one academic year. (Range of award: $1,000 - $2,999)
Eligibility: All applicants
must -
1.
Be a legal resident of the United States and a student in good standing at
Hofstra University School of Law;
2.
Be a member of BLSA for at least one year (a letter from the BLSA President
confirming your BLSA membership should be provided);
3.
Demonstrate a commitment to public service;
4.
Demonstrate financial need;
5.
Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
To apply for the scholarship, please
submit:
1.
A completed and signed BLSA Alumni Scholarship Award application;
2.
A copy of your resume;
3.
Letter(s) of recommendation are optional.
4.
Submit a personal statement (please see application form for details);
5.
A copy of your most recent law school transcript.
Deadline: All documents
should be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Office of Enrollment Management, no
later than 5 p.m. on October 1.
Submissions
will be reviewed by the BLSA Alumni Scholarship Committee which will include two
members from the Hofstra Law School BLSA Alumni Association, a member of the
Hofstra Law School faculty and a representative from the Law School
administration. The committee will recommend the final candidate(s) to the Dean
of the Law School, who maintains final authority regarding the final award
recipient(s).
